53,325 ORIGINAL MILES

HISTORY OF THIS CAR:

This is an unrestored 1961 export model (113) Beetle Deluxe Sedan that was first purchased at Hendricks Motors in Racine, Wisconsin on March 10, 1961. He original owner payed $25 to have it undercoated (thank God) and $5 for the side mirror. Total purchase price brand new was $1689.00 cash. It was garage keep there until the late 60's when the owner moved to Tampa, Florida. It was purchased by the 2nd owner in 1996. Luckily he appreciated it's worth and garaged it also. Good thing because he lives right on the ocean. Now I'm the 3rd proud owner of this beauty.

There's a oil change sticker still in the door from October of 1987 that has the mileage of 50,335.

I received a few boxes of everything that was ever replaced on the car except the steering wheel. It's been converted to 12v, so that will probably be left. The original color was black (code L41). It was painted yellow in 1980.

1961 FIRST AND LAST YEAR MODEL CHANGES

To the best of my knowledge this much is true...

FIRST YEAR FOR:

* Larger gas tank capacity and more trunk space. * Fuel gauge was available on standard models only. * Passenger side sun visor is standard not an option. * All Beetles world wide now had turn signals, no more semi4's. * 1 piece cast transmission / no more split case crash boxes. * Engine updated to 40 HP @ 3600 RPM's.(13% HP gain) and more torque 61 ft/lbs @ 2200RPM's up from 56ft/lbs @2000 RPM's * Compression was raised from 6.7:1 to 7:1 * First year for door key in drivers door handle. * New steering wheel design with a chromed horn ring. * First year to break 1 million sold in the world for a yearand 827,850 of those sold in the US. * All US spec models came with new asymmetrical headlight lenses.

LAST YEAR FOR:

* Tail lights that didn't have a seperate bulb for turn signals. * Export models with fuel reserve tap. * Side hood prop that bent all the hoods/ next year had springs. * Shift marks on the speedo were eliminated for a couple years.
